Pets in Adventure Academy are companion creatures that players can collect, care for, and interact with. How are Pets and Pet Crystals different?
A Pet is an animal or mythical creature that you can adopt as a companion. You can also adopt a Pet Crystal, which will hatch into a Pet (like a mythical egg). You have to provide enough care for your adopted crystal before it will hatch into a Pet.
- There are different types of Pet Crystals. Each Crystal type has the potential to hatch into multiple Pet types.
- You can see what kinds of Pets a Crystal has the chance of hatching into by clicking the i icon before adopting a Pet Crystal.
How do I adopt a Pet or Pet Crystal?
Once your Avatar reaches Level 3, you’ll be able to adopt a Pet or a Pet Crystal from these three shops:
- Little Critters
- Maya's Marvelous Menagerie
- Gem Shop
Adopting a Pet or Pet Crystal requires Gems. The number of Gems you’ll need is listed on the front of the tile for each Pet or Pet Crystal (you can see (2100 gems on the blue Pet Crystal tile above).
If you do not have enough Gems when you click to adopt, you will see this message:
Little Critters is located on the lowest level of the Marketplace, and is next to Patty-O's. This store has regular Pets like cats, dogs, horses, hawks, and more!
Maya's Marvelous Menagerie is located on the middle level of the Marketplace and is next to The Clothespin. This store has Pet Crystals and fantastical Pets like a Miniature Unicorn or Galaxy Cat! The Pet Crystals also hatch into mythical creatures.
The Gem Shop isn't a physical shop that you can walk your Avatar to. You get to the Gem Shop simply by selecting the Gem Shop icon at the top of your screen or through the Daily Missions menu. Keep in mind, the Gem Shop gets new supplies in each day, so if it doesn't have what you want on your first visit you can try again tomorrow.

What should I do if I can’t find the Pet I want?
You just need to be patient and persistent, because all the shops offer different Pets and Pet Crystals each day. Little Critters and Maya's Marvelous Menagerie have a rotating inventory that refreshes every 18 hours. Each store has a timer in the corner where you can track the refresh time. So if there’s a particular Pet or Pet Crystal you’ve been looking for but haven’t seen it in the stores, don’t worry! Check back in at the shops frequently and the Pet or Pet Crystal you want should eventually be available to adopt.
Keep in mind, some Pets and Pet Crystals will only be available to adopt once you reach a certain level for your Avatar. These Pets will note the level your Avatar needs to be in order to adopt them and you won’t be to select them if you are not yet at that level.
Can I name my Pets?
Yes, you can give your Pets names after adopting them or hatching them from a Pet Crystal. You can also change your Pet’s name at any time from the Pet menu.
How to change a Pet’s name:
- Select the Pets icon at the top of your screen to access the Pet menu.*
- Find the Pet whose name you’d like to change.
- Click/tap the Pencil icon next to the Pet’s name to open the Pet Name Editor.
- Type in the new name you’d like for your Pet.
- Select Enter, and your Pet will be renamed.
* Note: You will not have a Pet menu available until you have done the following:
- Reached Level 3 for your Avatar
- Adopted at least one Pet or Pet Crystal
How do I have one of my Pets or Pet Crystals follow me?
You can manage which Pet or Pet Crystal will follow you from the Pet menu; simply click the Select option on the Pet or Pet Crystal. Pets are allowed to follow you in all outdoor and indoor areas of the world of Adventure Academy. Only one Pet can follow an Avatar at a time.
If you don’t want a Pet to follow you, Deselect the Pet currently following you from the Pet menu.
How many Pets can I have?
The number of Pets you can have will depend on how many Pet Slots you have available. The maximum number of Pet Slots a player can have is 48. You can see how many you have by clicking the Pets icon to go to the Pet menu at the top of your screen.
Some of your Pet Slots will be locked until you reach a certain level for your Avatar. By leveling up your Avatar, you can unlock more Pet Slots, so you can have even more Pets!
How do I take care of my Pets?
All Pets will need food and water after a certain amount of time. You will know when they need food or water when you see your Pet with an empty food or water bowl above them.
When you see this, here’s how you can feed and/or give water to your Pet:
- Click or tap on your Pet.
- Feed and/or give water to your Pet by clicking the Food or Water Bowl icons.
- When they have successfully been fed and/or given water to drink, a message will appear above your Pet saying that they are eating and/or drinking.
After successfully attending to your Pet’s needs, you will earn some Coins and your Pet will receive some Heart Points. The Heart Points will help level up your Pet!
How do I level up my Pet?
You can level up your Pet if the Pet meets these two requirements:
- Your Pet’s Heart Meter is full. You fill a Pet's Heart Meter simply by taking care of them.
- You have the required amount of Gems needed for the level up. You can earn Gems by completing Daily Missions.
When your Pet’s Heart Meter is full, a Level Up! option will become available for your Pet.
Selecting Level Up! will prompt you to confirm that you want to level up your Pet; it also provides some additional information:
- What level your Pet will be leveled up to
- Any bonuses that will happen upon leveling up your Pet, such as:
- Earning more Coins after caring for your Pet
- The Pet growing in size
- The Pet gaining a glow or sparkle affect
- The required number of Gems needed to level up your Pet
What is the max level for a Pet?
The maximum level for a Pet is Level 5. The number of Heart Points a Pet needs to level up will increase as they reach higher levels.
How do I hatch my Pet Crystal?
You can level up your Pet if the Pet meets these two requirements:
- Your Pet’s Heart Meter is full. You fill a Pet's Heart Meter simply by taking care of them.
- You have the required amount of Gems needed for the level up. You can earn Gems by completing Daily Missions.
When the Heart Meter is full, a Hatch! option will become available for your Pet Crystal.
You will be prompted to confirm that you want to proceed with hatching your Pet Crystal and shown how many Gems are needed to do so. If you don’t have enough Gems, you will not be able to hatch your Pet Crystal into a Pet.
If you do have enough Gems and confirm you want to hatch the Pet Crystal, your Pet Crystal will hatch into your brand new Pet! Once this happens, you will be prompted to name your newly hatched Pet.
How do I return a Pet or Pet Crystal?
You can return a Pet or Pet Crystal at these Marketplace shops: Little Critters and Maya's Marvelous Menagerie. (Pets cannot be sold at any other shops in Adventure Academy or the Grand Marketplace.)
- Enter either Little Critters or Maya's Marvelous Menagerie.
- Click Return at the bottom right of the screen.
- Find the Pet or Pet Crystal you’d like to return from the menu and click or tap it.
- Click or tap the Return button.
- Confirm that you want to return the selected Pet or Pet Crystal. You will be shown the amount of currency that will be provided for returning your Pet. Please be aware that returns are final and cannot be undone. If you want the same Pet or Pet Crystal later, you will need to purchase one again.
- Select Return, which removes your Pet from your Pet Inventory and provides you the amount of currency stated.
If you do not want to proceed with returning a Pet or Pet Crystal, simply exit the menu by clicking or tapping Cancel or the X button.
Are the Pets within Intellipet Adventures the same?
