Keeping Adventure Academy up to date ensures the best performance and newest features. Update steps differ slightly depending on your device. This article explains what to expect on mobile (iOS/Android) versus desktop (Windows/Mac) and how to update successfully.
Mobile
Mobile (iOS & Android): Updates come from the App Store or Google Play and install like any other app update.
iPhone & iPad (iOS)
Open the App Store.
Tap your profile icon (top-right) > Available Updates.
Find Adventure Academy and tap Update.
(Optional) Go to Settings > App Store > App Updates and turn on automatic updates.
Tip: If you don’t see an update, pull down to refresh the Updates page or restart your device.
Android phones & tablets
- Open the Google Play Store.
- Tap your profile icon > Manage apps & device > Updates available.
- Find Adventure Academy and tap Update.
- (Optional) From the app’s Play Store page, tap the ⋮ menu and enable Auto-update.
If you can’t find an update:
- Make sure you’re signed into the same Google account you used to install the app.
- Clear the Play Store cache (Play Store > profile > Settings > About > App details > Storage > Clear cache) and check again.
- Restart your device and try once more.
Desktop
Desktop (Windows & Mac): When you see the message “A new version is available,” clicking Update downloads a new installer. You’ll need to open that file and follow the prompts to finish installing the update. This is expected and not a problem—desktop updates are full installs, not tiny in‑app patches.
On Windows and Mac, Adventure Academy updates through a new installer. After you click Update, a file will download. Be sure to open that file and complete the installation, downloading alone won’t update the app.
Windows
Close Adventure Academy (check the system tray or Task Manager to make sure it’s not still running).
In the update prompt, click Update (or download the latest installer from our website if directed by Support).
Open the downloaded .exe file and follow the setup steps. Allow changes if prompted.
When installation is complete, open Adventure Academy from your Start menu.
If you still see “A new version is available”:
Confirm you ran the installer after downloading.
Restart your computer and try again.
If antivirus software blocked the installer, temporarily pause it, re-run the installer, then re-enable protection.
Mac
Quit Adventure Academy (⌘ + Q).
Click Update in the app prompt, then open the downloaded .dmg file.
Drag Adventure Academy into Applications. If prompted, choose Replace.
Eject the installer disk image and open Adventure Academy from Applications.
If you still see “A new version is available”:
Make sure you’re launching the app from Applications, not from the .dmg window.
Restart your Mac and try again.
FAQs
Why desktop works this way?
Desktop updates use a full installer rather than a small in-app patch. This method is more reliable across Windows and Mac and ensures a clean, consistent setup with each release.
Is this update safe?
Yes. Updates come only from the in-app prompt or our official website. All installers are code-signed by Adventure Academy.
Do I have to update every time?
Only when a new version is released. You may not see prompts often.
Will my child’s progress be lost?
No. Progress is saved to your Adventure Academy account, not your device.
Do I need to uninstall first?
No. Running the new installer automatically replaces the existing app.
Why do I still see the update prompt after installing?
This usually means the installer wasn’t run, the app was open during install, or (on Mac) it’s being launched from the .dmg instead of Applications. Close the app, re-run the installer, and on Mac, drag to Applications and choose Replace.
Where can I see my app version?
Desktop: On the sign-in screen or in the app menu.
Mobile: On the app’s page in the App Store or Google Play.
Why does desktop need a download but mobile doesn’t?
Mobile apps are updated through the App Store or Google Play, while desktop versions use full installers to ensure reliability.
Do I need admin permission?
Some Windows and Mac setups require admin approval. If you’re using a work or school computer, IT may need to authorize the installation.
My antivirus flagged the installer. What should I do?
Temporarily pause antivirus protection, run the installer, then re-enable it. If it continues to flag, please share the exact alert message with our Support team.
Can I postpone the update?
You can usually delay briefly, but some updates are required to keep the app running smoothly.
Will this take up more space each time?
No. Each new version replaces the old one. You can safely delete the leftover installer in your Downloads folder afterward.
