NPC stands for Non-Player Character: They are all the characters who live in the Adventure Academy world and don’t come and go like you and all the other game players. You can chat with some NPCs, and others can offer you a Quest or Daily Quest!
Types of NPCs
Different NPCs will interact with you on different levels.
- Background NPCs: Some NPCs are simply ambient, like extras in a movie, and don’t meaningfully interact with players at all.
- Some are programed to say a few things when a player comes close to them but you can’t interact with them. These NPCs don't have any icon above their heads. Some shopkeepers/vendors, like Amelie, are this kind of NPC; she will greet you when you enter Amelie’s Armorie and say goodbye when you leave.
-
Dialogue NPCs: These characters with chat icons above their heads will chat a bit with you if you click on them.
-
Quest NPCs: Some of the most important NPCs are the ones who will offer you Quests. These Quest NPCs have a yellow exclamation point above their heads. If they are part of an Active Quest, there will be a green exclamation point.
- Daily Quest NPCs: Other important NPCs are the ones who will offer you Daily Quests. These Quest NPCs have a blue exclamation point above their heads.

The Academy
Headmaster Howell
The first NPC you are likely to meet is Headmaster Howell. The brilliant and popular leader of the Academy, he knows every student by name and greets them in the Academy Foyer, though he is sometimes in his Headmaster Office. If you want to jump right into a Quest, make sure you click on Headmaster Howell when you’re getting started.
Professor Poe
Though you may see her in the Academy, Professor Poe is known as the Adventure Stop Professor because she is often at these learning hubs located throughout Adventure Academy. Each of the signs hanging from the pole in the screenshot below opens a unique Adventure Map filled with learning challenges.
Professor Mellian
Like Professor Smithson, Professor Mellian is a Dialogue NPC, one of the leaders of the Honor Society, and typically found in one of the academic wings of the Academy: the Science Wing. There’s a lot to learn if you meet her in the Science Wing: a wide variety of scientific exhibits, and a Kiosk, too.
Professor Smithson
One of the leaders of the Honor Society, the fun-loving Professor Smithson is often found in the Academy Foyer or Math Wing that’s just off the Foyer. He’s in the Math Wing in the following screenshot, where you can see a Gold Star over his head because the player approaching behind him is returning from a successful quest. There’s a lot to learn if you meet him in the Math Wing: educational exhibits and a Kiosk, too.
Miss Jeania
Miss Jeania is the Academy Librarian, so you will naturally find her in the Library, just off the Foyer, where you probably met Headmaster Howell and others. She’s a Quest NPC, and if you visit her early after meeting Headmaster Howell, she can give you a series of simple Quests (like the one pictured below to meet Professor Smithson). But you’ll have to be on at least Level 4 to embark on her Wink Web quest. While you are visiting Miss Jeania, you’ll notice a glowing stack of books on her desk, which is an Adventure Map, and there’s a Kiosk just a few step to the right of that.
Avery
You will often meet Avery in the Foyer, along with Headmaster Howell, but she is sometimes on the Commons. She’s a student who is always excited about school events and often the first to know about them. In the Academy, she is often chatting with her good friend Jade and may give you a Quest to help another student. In the screenshot below, she’s on the Commons, and you can see her green exclamation point, which means she is part of an Active Quest.
Kevin
Kevin is another NPC you are likely to meet in the Academy Foyer, along with the Headmaster and Avery. He’s a Dialogue NPC (as you can see by the chat icon over his head), so you won’t get a Quest from him, but he’s really smart and likes to help out newer students (as he is doing in this screenshot with Headmaster Howell in the background).
The Pier
Fisk
Owner of the Reel Time fish market on the Pier, Fisk knows everything about fish and fishing. He’s an NPC that switches types: often he’s a Dialogue NPC who you can just chat with (as shown here with the chat icon over his head). But he sometimes has a gold exclamation point over his head, indicating he has a Quest or a blue exclamation point when it is a Daily Quest. Even if he doesn’t have a Quest for you, his store is a good place to purchase a fishing pole so you can enjoy some Deep Sea fishing around the Aquarium or Shallow Water fishing on the beaches nearby.
Logan & Antonio
These two NPCs work together in Antonio’s Pizzeria on the Pier. Antonio, the owner and head chef, is a Dialogue NPC and loves to talk about his food. Logan, who works at the counter, is a Quest NPC and can offer you some pizza-related Quests.
Genna
The Aquarium is lots of fun and filled with interesting and educational exhibits that can help you learn about sea creatures. Genna, a Quest NPC, works at the Aquarium, studies marine biology, and wants to share her love of the sea by giving players Quests related to Aquarium exhibits.
Lifeguard Michael
Michael, a Dialogue NPC, is the Adventure Academy lifeguard, who patrols the beach around the Pier. He sometimes goes up onto the Pier, and sometimes he’s in his lifeguard stand. He loves the ocean and is happy to share that passion with players who chat with him.
Emmy
A former Academy student, Emmy is a Dialogue NPC who likes to read on the beach near the pier and lifeguard stand.
The Marketplace
Alonso
Alonso, a former student and Honor Society member specializing in science, is now a Crafting alchemist. He’s the owner of the Craftsman Ship, which is where you go to craft items from Recipes you have.
Shady Dave
Shady Dave is a secretive shopkeeper. You’ll find him (if you can!) in the hidden (behind an unmarked brick wall in an alley) Marketplace store that’s named after him: Shady Dave’s. There’s a glowing cash register at the back of the store. Click it to see all the interesting things that Shady Dave is selling, or click the Sell if you want to sell something from your Inventory to Dave. He’s also a Quest NPC, so click on him to see what he has in mind for you.
Jobon
Jobon is an odd (but fun!) Quest NPC who you will likely bump into when walking around the Marketplace. He has invented his own language and is so excited about it that he will offer you a Quest to help you learn it.
Dana
A cheerful Academy student, Dana is an avid shopper in the Marketplace and good friends with Emilia. She will probably have a shopping-related quest that may also involve her friend.
Mason
Mason is a journalist who works at the Adventure Academy Chronicle in the Marketplace. You can see by the green exclamation point that he’s part of an active Quest.
The Commons
Groundskeeper Wilks
You will find Groundskeeper Wilks all around the Commons and sometimes in the Academy Foyer. He’s an expert botanist and loves taking care of the grounds of the Commons; he also knows quite a lot about the history of the school. He appears as both a Dialogue NPC and a Quest NPC, and he’s known to offer some exciting Quests when you see the yellow exclamation point above his head.
Kendra
Kendra is a special NPC, who you will find in the corner of the Commons near the entrances to both the Clubhouse and the Campground. What’s so special? Well, as you can see, she has a Club book above her head vs. a Chat icon or exclamation point. And when you click on her, instead of a conversation or a Quest, you will get a list of Clubs that you can join, as you can see in the second screenshot below.
Scooter
Found all around the Commons, Scooter is the Quest-giver for Races, so he’s a really fun NPC to connect with!
Becky
Becky is a waitress at the outdoor cafe on the Commons. She’s often a Dialogue NPC (as shown here) who will welcome you to the cafe, but you might sometimes see her with a a yellow or blue exclamation point over her head, indicating she has a Quest or Daily Quest available.
Rodrigo
Rodrigo is an Academy student who loves to play his guitar for players on the Commons. He’s sometimes a Dialogue NPC and sometimes a Quest NPC.
The Neighborhood
Old Man Bob
Old Man Bob is another of the NPCs that is sometimes a Dialogue NPC with a chat icon over his head (and some grouchy dialogue) and sometimes a Quest NPC with a yellow exclamation point! Either way, you’ll find him rocking in his chair in front of the Historical House (which you can find on the Neighborhood map).
Emilia
A brilliant inventor, Emilia can always be found tinkering with some fanciful machine outside her house, which is marked as the Inventor’s House on the Neighborhood Map, next to the Historical House where Old Man Bob is. Click on her if you want a Quest that involves collecting items that can help her build her next invention.
Helen
Helen is easy to recognize, even from a distance, because she is always pushing her baby stroller around the Neighborhood. This Quest NPC is a former Academy student and knows the history of the Neighborhood. If you click on her, she’ll offer you a quest, usually related to helping someone in the Neighborhood.
Stacy
A Quest NPC who is the Head of the Neighborhood Organization, Stacy wants players to feel welcome in their Homes, but she may need your help to create the perfect House Warming gift.
Manfred
A chatty former Academy student, Manfred is typically in front of his house in the Neighborhood doing yard work. Occasionally just a Dialogue NPC, Manfred is often a Quest NPC and may ask you to help him by collecting some Whimsywillows (special, glowing flowers) from the Commons and Neighborhood.
Rica
Rica is the bank teller in the Neighborhood bank, and she welcomes the help of players to promote the bank. Click her to see if you want to accept her Quest.
The Clubhouse
Harrison and his cats
It’s easy to find Harrison, hard at work building the Clubhouse from his open-air Clubhouse Shop surrounded by all his cats. He usually needs some help, so click on this NPC and see what Quest he can give you.
The Campgrounds
Connell
There are lots of reasons to visit the Campgrounds: a water slide, fishing, and opportunities to learn more about the great outdoors. While you are there, you should look for Connell, who can offer you a Quest to become an Adventure Scout!
